How we review and test products
Every review page carries a dot at the top. Green means we bought the product and used it ourselves. Amber means the verdict is built from specs, expert testing and verified owner reviews, and we haven't had it in hand yet. We never blur the two.
How we pick what to cover
- Start from a real buying question ("best chef's knife under $100"), not a product we were sent.
- Shortlist the models people actually buy, plus one or two less-known options that look better on paper.
- Read hundreds of owner reviews for each, looking for repeated failure points after months of use.
- Buy the shortlist with our own money and use it at home.
What testing looks like by category
Kitchen
- Knives: paper-slice test out of the box and after weeks of daily use; tomato, onion and squash prep; handle comfort in wet hands.
- Cookware: evenness of heat (pancake and flour tests), sticking, cleanup, and how the finish looks after a month.
- Appliances: time, noise and results against the claims on the box.
Home and furnishings
- Bedding: feel, shrinkage and pilling after repeated washes, measured before and after.
- Furniture and storage: assembly time, wobble, materials, and how it holds up after weeks of use.
Electronics
- Chargers and power banks: real output and capacity on a USB power meter.
- Audio and desk gear: comparisons side by side, with recordings or measurements where it helps.
What we don't do
- No paid placements. Brands cannot buy a spot or a score.
- We never claim to have tested something we didn't.
- If a brand sends a free sample, the review says so.
- We only post deals on products we'd recommend at full price.
